[Post updated on Aug 14, 2018]

“Siapakah Pahlawan Alam Maya” was a Cyber Crime Awareness programme  organized at various schools in Malaysia. Mohd Ridzman Azzahari, the Managing Director of OneMyr Management that organized this programme stated that it is targeted at secondary school students. He believes that students are the right target to start this awareness on cyber crimes.

This series of events was sponsored and supported by Lava Protocols across two schools, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Azlan Aziz Shah, Seksyen 2 Shah Alam on 26th February 2015 which was also attended by Superintendent Ruslan Abdullah, Head of Police Shah Alam District. The second seminar was held at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (Perempuan) Raja Zarina, Pelabuhan Klang, Selangor on the 13th March 2015.

Lava Protocols was delighted to have been a part of this Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and we were glad to have been able to add value to this event to enlighten the younger generation.

Mithran Balakrishnan, Director of Communications and Corporate Strategy, who was the guest of honour representing Lava Protocols said, “The Gen Y’s are the leaders of tomorrow and it is them who will shape the world and people around them”.

Apart from his role at Lava Protocols, Mithran who also conducts human values based classes voluntarily for teenagers during the weekends; related to the importance in equipping the teenagers with such awareness on cyber crimes. He elaborated on the role youngsters play in shaping an ethical cyber community.

Being a cloud computing company, Lava is equally concerned about the misconception and incorrect information spread across social media and the potential impact it has on individuals and public at large. As much as it provides knowledge, there are also certain amounts of threat that may not be obvious to public.

Therefore, it is certainly important for the younger generation to be educated and empowered with the right tools, especially in this fast growing technology era.

During the interview with the press, Andrew Thomas, Executive Director of Lava Protocols said, “Cyber crime has been increasing as years pass by which involves mostly the younger generation as they are less aware of cyber threats and the usage of social media and technology without a deeper consciousness.”

He continues, “Lava Protocols is very glad to have sponsored this seminar, because I believe we are responsible to educate the younger generation on the precautions that they need to take while using social media and technology. This seminar could avoid many of these youngsters from falling into the cyber trap, as this is being carried out to enlighten their knowledge.”

Adding to that, Andrew said that every individual has rights to use technology and the existing controls does not stop them from mis-using it. However, an intelligent user will know how to use technology wisely and thus able to protect themselves from being a victim of cyber crimes.
