It’s generally a known fact that technology boosts any company’s productivity but by embracing Google Apps technology, consumers can take an even further giant leap. But, what exactly is Google Apps made of? Well in a nutshell, it includes Gmail, Google calendar, as well as a host of productivity tools in social, document, and site collaborations. These features are offered by Google Enterprises on an around-the-clock basis.
Now you must be thinking, “Sounds handy, but how can Google Apps help my company?” Today, many entrepreneurs have visions to transform their company into a more productive entity or to introduce a work culture that values knowledge-sharing or solid communications protocols throughout the company.
Here is where Google’s innovations come in handy; it’s ready made and its user-friendly tools allows the younger generation to change the way their companies operate. This is of course achievable with firm company policies in place. By providing the right tools, the new generation gets things done in a jiffy.
Let me give you an example : Five years ago, one would normally complete a document from their own desktop. Upon completion, this document will be sent via email as an attachment to the next person for review. This cycle repeats until roughly 10 versions of that same document exist. Completing this task probably takes a few days, and probably more than 10 emails.
However, with the introduction of Google Apps, it makes completion of work speedier than ever – as a group of co-workers can edit and discuss the content in real-time, from different types of devices. Team members no longer have to work in isolation.
Another example: A decade ago, one would wake up everyday and immediately check his/ her personal emails. Today, one would first look at their favourite social feeds… Why? Have you thought about it? Is it because there are more pictures? Or is it the status updates, that you participate in by adding your comments? Or the popular videos that have been circling among your friends? These social media networks are overtaking email collaboration. Even Gartner, the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company predicts that social networking will replace emails by 2014.
Social collaboration, using programmes such as Google Apps, is thus an inevitable direction for most organisations today. It is the source of receiving the latest news, sharing information, posting updates, and engaging everyone, which is why it’s rapidly overtaking email’s popularity. Whether an organisation chooses to adopt social technology, however, is a test of its willingness to embrace consumerised technology made by Google to cater for Enterprise businesses.
